You're Just Plain Bad Luck!
By Glen Young
A man was walking across a busy street when he was hit by a car. The impact caused a severe blow to his head.He regained consciousness after two days in a coma. The first thing he saw when he awoke was his lovely wife by his bedside. He held her hand as he spoke.
"Judy, you've always been right by my side. When I was a struggling college student, I failed time and again, but you were always there with me, encouraging me to keep on trying." She squeezed his hand as he continued. "When I finally graduated and went for all those job interviews, which I failed to get, you stayed right there with me. You even cut out more classifieds for me to check on." "One day, I got a job at this little firm. When the chance came for me to handle a big contract, I blew it because of one little mistake. And yet, you were there beside me all the way. Later, I got another job after being laid off for sometime. However, I never seemed to be promoted. My hard work was never recognized. And so, I remained in the same position from the day I joined the company until now. Through all of this, you were right there by my side." Her eyes brimmed with tears as she listened to her husband. "Because of this terrible accident, I've been in a coma for two days. Now, when I wake up, who is the first person I see? I see you. For that reason, there's something I'd really like to say to you."
Overcome with emotion, she began to sob. She then threw herself on the bed, embracing her husband. After a moment, she regained her composure and he said, "Judy, I think you're just plain bad luck!"
And Adam said, "The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat." Genesis 3:12.
From Adam to the present, men have consistently blamed their problems on someone else. Adam says his predicament is because of the woman. He even lays blame at the feet of God by saying that God gave him the woman. Adam, as do many today, could not accept that the unpleasant things in his life were there because of his actions and no one else. There are religious folk who believe their condemnation before God is because of Adam. Yet, God said a long time ago, "The soul that sinneth, it shall die: the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the
son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him." Ezekiel 18:20.
Whatever sin may be in our lives is there because of our personal actions not the actions of others.
Do you feel that the Bible class is boring because the teacher repeats himself? Do you think the assemblies lack in vitality because the preacher preaches too long? How about this one? Do you feel the people are just not concerned enough about you and your problems? The answers to these questions has to do with your attitude. You are the answer.
Stop blaming others for the way things turn out. While there may be times when our circumstances are beyond our control, the majority of times problems arise because we bring them upon ourselves.
On the great day of judgment, a man will not be able to point to his parents and say, "It's their fault I am bad."
A woman will not be able to point to her boss from work and proclaim that, "It's his fault I forsook my family." And you will not be able to look at your spouse and say,
"You're just plain bad luck
2Co 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
